When planning a summer activity to do with your family, there are a number of factors one must consider.
Is it fun? Will everyone enjoy it? Will it be too challenging to organize? So what is the number one summer activity for families with young children that solves each of these questions? Whitewater rafting! Here at Sierra Whitewater Rafting, we are here to help you with each of these and help you to plan that perfect vacation you’ve been dreaming of!
Whitewater rafting is an amazing hobby and pastime. The unique thing about the outdoors is there is always something that appeals to everyone. From the thrill seeker teen, to the bird watching enthusiast aunt, a trip out on the river has something to engage each of your family members.
Let’s explore some of our trips to see which one is the best for you!
Our most popular trip is a Full Day Excursion on the South Fork. This trip may be the right one for your family is you have children six years and older. While every child is different, we trust that you know your child best. Our age limits are always suggestions based upon our own experience and average developmental milestones. Nonetheless, some children are ready sooner, some a little later. The Full Day trip is just that, a full day. From 8:30am to around 4:30pm, you will have a day packed with adventure and whitewater! We do stop half-way, back at camp, for a hot barbecue lunch and restroom break. There are also plenty of opportunities for swimming through swimmers’ rapids, jumping off rocks, and of course photo opportunities. If the full day seems like it may be a little long for your youngster, feel free to join us on a half day trip, either the morning or afternoon! Make a trip of it and spend a few nights camping with us!
What if your child is younger than six?
Well, we may just have the perfect trip for you, The Lower Middle Fork! This float is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, generally ages three and up. They are invited to take a shot at paddling, or just hang on and enjoy the scenery. Feel free to add on lunch, or bring along your child’s favorite snacks to enjoy alongside the river. Depending on the season, there may even be a waterfall to hike to with swimming pools! This journey is a little over five hours, so definitely make sure to bring ample water and sunscreen. No matter what option you choose for your family, we look forward to seeing you out here!
